A Message from the Director
My name is Laura Naugle. I am so happy to be Hillsboro Public Library's New Library Director. I live in rural Carlinville with my husband, Kevin of 36 years. We have 2 grown children and a new granddaughter. I have been a librarian for 12 years. However, I have worked in libraries most of my life since I was in high school. I have a passion for books and sharing them with others. Being a librarian has been a dream for a very long time. I am looking foward to learning about the Hillsboro Community and sharing my love of the library with all of you.
As a librarian, it is my goal to help the community learn skills of technology, genealogy, how to use our eBooks, and to enjoy our library family with great new books, daily news from our Journal News and current periodicals. I am here to visit or to listen to you as you share with me the new books that you would like to read. Come in and see me anytime.

Circulation/Technology Manager & Library Clerks
Shelley Kolbs
Shelley is back in the library as our Circulation/Technology Manager. If you need help with computer skills or have new book ideas, feel free to ask Shelley. She has a great love of books and reading. Shelley will provide circulation services, inter-library loan services, cataloging of books, and genealogy services.
Sharon Martincic
Sharon is a long time employee of over 16 years of service. She is a wonderful resource for helping with genealogy research or providing readers advisory (book recommendations) service. She is well versed with knowledge of popular adult authors and titles. Everyone is always wondering what Sharon is reading! Sharon also provides circulation services, inter library loan services, bookkeeping and shelving.

Jenny Murphy
Jenny has worked at the library for over 10 years. Jenny provides circulation services, quick reference, answers the phone, shelves the children's books and is great with little ones. Jenny is our one of our acquisitions clerks, which means she helps in cataloging the books for us.

Sue VanOstran
Sue previously was our substitute librarian since 2016, but now has recently joined our staff permanently as of September, 2018. She is going to continue to be the Witt librarian, which she manages on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in addition to being part of our staff. Sue is skilled in interlibrary loan, library best practices, and knowledge of library law from her experience at Witt.

Nancy Merriman
Nancy started with us in September 2018. Nancy is currently trained on circulation, interlibrary loan and she is in charge of tracking memorials and sending sympathy acknowledgements to the grieving families. She also performs our cataloging of books. She handles deposits at the bank for the library.

Michelle Balla
Michelle is our new evening and weekend clerk. Hired October 2022. Michelle is an avid reader and has a been a library member for a long time. She has prior experience as a Hillsboro Library board trustee, experience in our local school library, and experience working with children K-5.
