A Message from the Director

I am so honored to be back in my hometown to give back to the community that gave so much to me. In fact, I even grew up going to this very same library when I was little!  I grew up in Irving, IL and graduated from Hillsboro High School. Since then I went on to receive a Bachelor's in English-publishing in 2012 and a Masters in Library Science with a K-12 library and information specialist teaching licensure in 2014. I have prior experience as a school librarian and district librarian in Illinois Schools. I also have experience working with special needs children, toddlers and pre-schoolers. I have been with the Hillsboro Library since August 2017.

As the roles of librarians change from finding information to demonstrating how to use technology, providing assistance with genealogy research and even providing more cultural experiences (programs for familes and adults), my vision of the library includes increasing and developing programs for all ages from birth through adulthood, offering one-on-one technology assistance, expanding graphic novel collections, revamping the nonfiction sections and adding to our digital archives via podcasts ("The Voices of Hillsboro" project) for digital and historical preservation.

Sincerely,

Shelley Kolb (Singler)
